Variable Size Droplet Technology (VSDT)
The Stylus Photo RX590 features one of inkjet printing's most significant advances Variable Size Droplet Technology (VSDT). This innovative Epson technology plays a key role in the dramatic increase in print quality, and incorporates:
- Ultramicrodots, which are incredibly small ink droplets, between three and six picolitres in size. The dot diameter of these tiny ink droplets is up to four times smaller than the diameter of a human hair and close to the limit of resolution for the human eye. Ultramicrodots result in prints with much finer detail, less graininess and smoother gradations, delivering considerable print quality enhancement. Note: 1 picolitre (pl) = 0.000 000 000 001 litre
- The ability to print using different sized ink droplets. Where an increase in the number of dots per print can result in a slower print speed, Epson introduced the Variablesized droplet functionality to produce varying sizes of droplets, each of which is appropriate to the area of the image being printed. It's like painting a room you use a large brush size for quick coverage and smaller, finer brushes for areas of detail.
