Have you ever seen the real colour of your DSLR? Photo Fine Premia can display the true colour of the images captured on your digital camera.

Expanded colour space

Photo Fine Premia is a wide colour gamut LCD technology which covers 94% of the Adobe® RGB colour space. In addition, it is designed to cover almost the entire range of colours printable with a high end Epson inkjet printer. Photo Fine Premia is the best partner for confirming printed colour. Photo Fine Premia technology reproduces images with the extended colour range required by professional and discriminating photographers to correctly judge their image data on location. This is unique among portable storage and viewing devices, whose requirement for low power-consumption prohibit the use of standard wide gamut displays.

Photo Fine Premia covers 94% Adobe RGB colour space.

Red, blue, and two green colour filters.

Standard LCDs use red, green, and blue (RGB) filters to produce the colour sub pixels that combine to produce colour images on the displays. In a wide gamut display darker filters are used and as a consequence the light source to illuminate it must be brighter.

In place of this arrangement, Epson engineers have used red, blue, and two green colour filters (emerald green and yellow green), which allow colour reproduction at a level of naturalness not previously seen on medium-sized LCDs. At the same time, the colour range of both the red and blue filter materials have been extended. With these improvements, Photo Fine Premia achieves a greatly expanded colour gamut, while keeping the power consumption at a level required by a portable device.

Super-wide viewing angle

Expanded Wide View Angle

Another advancement in LCD screens for portable devices is the wide viewing angle.

Although various makers' stated viewing angle specifications may be the same, Epson photo viewers deliver a clearer image at skewed angles thanks to Photo Fine Premia technology.

Advanced colour reproduction with 3D LUT

An additional key technology of Photo Fine Premia is its colour management system. A four-colour filter alone is not enough for accurate colour reproduction. Epson has developed a colour management system for its new four-colour filter set - a new transistor driver chip that incorporates a colour-conversion algorithm needed to change the RGB input signals to a B-YG-R-EG four-colour output signal.

Epson uses the same 3D LUT technology created for printers. The Epson P-6000 and P-7000 have several 3D LUT and it is possible to set the colour temperature as 5000K, 5500K, 6000K or 6500K. It is also possible to set gamma as either 2.2 or 1.8. Now you can confirm the colour according to the purpose. The Epson P-6000 and P-7000 have higher colour accuracy with this 3D LUT technology. Please see the Photo Fine Premia technology page for more details.

3DLUT technology

24-bit smooth gradation

The Epson P-6000 and P-7000 use 8 bits to represent each of blue, yellow-green, red, emerald green. The 28 = 256 levels of each of these four colours can therefore be combined to give a total of 4,294,967,296 colours (256 x 256 x 256 x 256), from which the Epson P-6000 and P-7000 utilises 16,777,216 colours, resulting in much smoother gradation than with 260,000-colour LCDs.

USB-display

The USB display function faithfully converts the colour image edited in Adobe® Photoshop® and displays it on the Epson P-6000/P-7000. Standard PC displays do not usually provide true colour representation, but with the Epson P-6000/P-7000 it is now possible to accurately confirm the colour anywhere.
