3LCD Technology
When it comes to projector technology, image quality is the hallmark of excellence. When powerful images are a must, so is an Epson 3LCD projector. Projectors that use 3LCD technology are easy on the eyes because they reproduce beautiful images in bright, natural colours with smooth motion and no colour break-up. Click here for more information
Advanced Image real time Resizing (AIrR)
AIrR is an Epson original technology for achieving the best image quality for displaying different resolutions.
AIrR for reducing resolutionIn compression mode such as SXGA to XGA, AIrR circuitry samples by synchronised dot clock to input signal (maximum 135MHz). This calculates the selected pixel data by use of Epson's original algorithm, then displays a compressed image which is of considerably improved quality compared to the images produced by traditional method of line dropping. |
AIrR for increasing resolutionIn expansion mode such as video to XGA, VGA to XGA or SVGA to XGA, according to Epson original algorithm, AIrR circuitry estimates and calculates additional pixel data. It then shows the expanded image which is smoother than the image of the traditional method of fixed ratio expansion. |

Lumens
ANSI (American National Standards Institute) lumens is the industry standard for measuring a projector's light output, or brightness. While an adherence by projector vendors to the standard would provide a reliable means by which projectors could be accurately compared, there is quite often a large degree of disparity between similarly rated projectors from different vendors.
Epson commits to a policy of accurate - and often understating - the Lumens of its projectors, ensuring purchasers a guarantee of a projector that lives up to its Lumens rating.

Card player for PC free presentation
With a growing number of Epson projectors, full industry-standard memory card support is included. Presentation, image, video and audio files can be saved to a memory card then accessed by the projector once inserted into the memory card slot. As a result, users can deliver high quality presentations without the need for a connected PC or notebook computer.

EasyMP.net
With the optional EasyMP.net unit, your projector becomes a self-contained computer with its own CPU, hard disk, memory and Microsoft Windows-Embedded. The result is total freedom, with the ability to install an enormous variety of Windows applications, such as a Web browser, media player, presentation managers and even whiteboard emulators. Anything you can do with the installed software can be projected on-screen.
Features of Epson's EasyMP.net technology include: Easy Player (to play a range of media, such as WMV and RealMedia as well as streaming broadcasts via the network); Easy Board / Easy Marker (turns the screen into a virtual whiteboard that can even be captured to file); and Network Screen (for projecting up to four computer screens at once through a LAN connection).
Applicable models: Optional with EMP-8300
Faroudja Directional Correlational De-interlacing (DCDi) Technology
Faroudja DCDi technology dramatically enhances video quality by improving cross-colouring and virtually eliminating jagged oblique lines. This highly developed video processing technology detects the angle of the outer tilt of the pixel and de-interlaces the video signal according to the angle. This reduces jagged lines to give moving images a more natural appearance and deliver a cinema-like image.
Applicable models: EMP-TW500
HDMI technology
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. It supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. Immediate benefits of HDMI include superior, uncompressed digital video and full bandwidth digital audio, even from DVD-Audio.
Applicable models: EMP-TW500
Keystone Correction
When a projector is positioned anywhere other than directly central to the screen or projection surface, the image will be projected with a rectangular distortion, known as keystoning. This typically appears as a tapered, or wedge shape. While most modern projectors today have the ability for manual keystone adjustment, many Epson projectors include fully automatic vertical keystone correction technology.
At the higher end of the Epson projector range, Epson's very own QuickCorner Technology allows for the adjustment of each of the 4 sides of the image for even greater control. On all Epson projectors, manual corrections to keystone can be made either by use of the control panel or remote control.
Applicable models: All EMP models
Networking
Epson's advanced networking technology delivers projectors that are ideally suited to the corporate environment. Features include e-mail notification of projector problems, remote monitoring and single PC control over multiple LAN-connected projectors.

Panel on Prism (POP) Technology
Panel on Prism is a technology utilised to achieve a reduction in the physical size of projectors and provide stable optical characteristics. Similar technology has been used for video cameras. Panel on Prism technology was first used in the EMP-5000.
The 3-LCD technology is superior to single LCD's for high image quality and brightness because it does not need a colour filter and therefore can focus red, green and blue lights to the same point. In order to achieve this, the 3-LCD position has to be precisely adjusted. Due to mechanical impact, heat impact and the fact that projectors are transported, there is some possibility that the LCD position may shift. This shift causes pixel misalignment and focus mis-adjustment.
In Panel on Prism technology, the 3-LCD are bonded to the prism after undergoing fine optical adjustment. This means that the projector can suffer impact but the LCD's remain in the same finely tuned position and so misalignment will not occur.
In the traditional mechanism, the gap between the LCDs and the prism can be as much as 12 mm. Therefore the optical unit size of the Panel on Prism mechanism is considerably smaller than projectors than do not use this technology. Due to this, POP technology also enables the projector to be physically smaller than competing projectors.

Polarisation Conversion
Polarisation Conversion is a technology for achieving high optical efficiency and super brightness. This technology has been used on the EMP range since the launch of the EMP-3500 in December 1996. Prior to the use of Polarisation Conversion, projectors could only utilise half of the total light volume due to the particular characteristics of the LCD polariser.
The polariser is required to enable the LCD to create polarised light which passes through the LCD. However, polarised light shines in two directions with a 90 degree difference between the two directions. In previous optical systems, horizontal polarisation light was reflected back by the LCD polariser and therefore, wasted. The Polarisation Conversion technology uses polarisation splitters to change the horizontal polarisation light to vertical polarisation light by a thin polarisation conversion prism, thereby increasing the amount of light through the LCD. |
As a result, the optical efficiency becomes 1.5 to 1.9 times better than in projectors that do not utilise the polarisation conversion system. In technical terms, the maximum improvement ratio of optical efficiency depends on the lamp characteristics. Short arc length lamps are particularly suitable for this technology, which the UHP and UHE lamps on the new EMP Range support.

Powered Zoom
The powered zoom featured on Epson's projectors allows users to sit back and adjust the zoom setting with the unit's remote control. This is particularly useful for situations where projectors are ceiling mounted.
Applicable models: EMP-TW200, EMP-TW500
Preview Function
In many large and professional presentation environments, video can originate from multiple sources and fed through to the projector's various input connectors - DVI, Computer 1 and 2, BNC, S-Video and Composite Video. The Epson Preview Function allows the operator or presenter to view from one-to-seven "Snap" windows that show the video data connection from each of the video input sources.
The Preview Function can be controlled from the remote control, allowing the user to select any of the seven input sources in a matter of seconds.
Applicable models: EMP-7800, EMP-7850, EMP-8300, EMP-9300
Quick Corner
With traditional Keystone Correction, the vertical and horizontal keystones are generally corrected independently of each other. With Epson's new Quick Corner technology, corners of the projected image can be selected and quite literally "dragged" to the optimum position.
Applicable models: EMP-7800, EMP-7850, EMP-8300, EMP-9300
Variable Brightness
Where many other home cinema projectors leave you stuck on a single brightness setting, Epson projectors put control right where it belongs - with you. Variable brightness provides the projector with the flexibility to provide optimum image quality in varying light conditions, using the highest setting for brighter conditions and a lower setting for darker conditions.
Applicable models: EMP-73, EMP-74, EMP-7800, EMP-7850, EMP-8300, EMP-TW10, EMP-TW200, EMP-TW500
Vertical & Horizontal Lens Shift (home)
Ideally suited to a home cinema environment, lens shift provides superior installation flexibility by supporting physical movement of the projector's lens within the projector housing. The result is the ability to move the projected image without the need to move the projector itself. With vertical and horizontal lens shift, there is an even greater degree of freedom in placement of the projector.
Applicable models: EMP-TW200, EMP-TW500
Wireless Connectivity
The Epson wireless connectivity uses the standard 803.11b protocol, handling presentations with virtually no time lag. Wireless means freedom - freedom from the physical projector-to-PC/notebook connection; freedom that allows simultaneous connection with several PCs/notebooks; freedom that allows you to wirelessly connect your projector to the network and freedom to access and modify its settings from within a Web browser environment.
Applicable models: EMP-735, EMP-7850
Wall Shot
In normal projector-based presentation situations, a clear white projection screen/wall is required to achieve optimum colour projection. Unfortunately, in classrooms, boardrooms and meeting rooms, projector screens and clear white walls are not always there. Quite often it's a case of projecting images onto differently coloured surfaces, which results in out-of-balance colour.
With Epson's Wall Shot technology, the projector automatically detects the colour of the projection surface and the changes its colour matrix within a couple of seconds - all taking into account the room's brightness and projection surface colour contrast.
Applicable models: EMP-7800, EMP-7850
Widescreen
True widescreen viewing sees the image projected with a 16:9 aspect ratio, as opposed to the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio.
To take advantage fully of this feature, source input should be from compatible DVD, digital TV or gaming consoles.
Applicable models: EMP-TW10, EMP-TW200, EMP-TW500
10-Bit Colour
